By mid-June the Falmouth Heights sand has warmed enough to sit on after dinner, the Commodores' pennants are up along Main Street, and the question shifts from whether the season has started to which evenings to give it. Residents already know the broad shape of a Falmouth summer. What changes from year to year is the texture: which kitchen has just opened, which Thursday belongs to the band and which to a film, and where the calendar quietly thickens before Labor Day.
This summer's small surprise is that two of the most useful additions are not festivals at all. They are dining rooms, and both of them take walk-ins.
The Thursday Spine
If a Falmouth week has a center of gravity in July and August, it is Thursday evening at Marine Park.
