Welcome to Dennis

On the weekly Dennis art walk hosted by America’s oldest professional theater, you’ll come across creative delights crafted by local artists and artisans. Beautiful sculptures. Moving paintings. Entertaining performances. The pièce de résistance, however, is the vibrant community spirit. Dennis’ small-town and artistic atmosphere is intoxicating and makes it a precious jewel of Cape Cod’s seaside neighborhoods.

The town is made up of five villages: Dennis, Dennis Port, East Dennis, South Dennis, and West Dennis, all with their distinct flavors. East Dennis is home to the impressive cultural delights and views of the Cape, while Dennis Port boasts the Atlantic beaches and their natural beauty. All enjoy convenient access to the rest of the Cape and the greater Boston area via route 6.

Most real estate in Dennis is single-family homes, similar in architectural style and character to nearby towns. Classic Cape Cod architectural details — such as gabled roofs, clapboard sidings — are popular here, and many houses also feature impressive plots of land.

Residents are inspired by the area’s natural beauty and enjoy fostering a vibrant community spirit. Coupled with the gorgeous scenery of Cape Cod, the experience of living in Dennis is refreshing.

The town is popular during the summer but remains quiet and relaxed for the rest of the year. DINING, ENTERTAINMENT, & SHOPPING

With its variety of restaurants and shops, Port Dennis is usually where locals head for recreation. Highlights include the popular Wooden Shoe — a cozy local pub serving Cape Cod favorites like lobster rolls and the delectable frozen treats from Sundae School. For something more upscale, The Oyster Company is a stylish choice to enjoy house cocktails over fresh oysters. Another excellent seafood restaurant is Sesuit Harbor Cafe in East Dennis, a highly rated destination with a raw bar, views of the Northside Marina, and even a restaurant boat for cocktail cruises and other events.

Residents and visitors alike are privileged to have an impressive array of art galleries and specialty shops to explore. Scargo Stoneware Pottery & Art Gallery curates a selection of gorgeous hand-crafted clay houseware and decoration. Eden Hand Arts also purveys locally made goods, focusing on beautiful silver jewelry and decorative items. For more local businesses where one can get necessities, the Dennis Port Shops features a general store and a bookstore in a quaint setting.

How many other coastal communities have nineteen beaches? In Dennis, residents are blessed with a generous amount of coastline. Mayflower Beach is a highlight, as one can walk for miles along the tidal flats during low tide and observe marine wildlife usually concealed by water. The Cape Playhouse is the cultural crown jewel in Dennis. Originally opened in 1927, legendary performers like Julie Andrews, Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, and more have graced its stage during its extraordinary history.
