CENTERVILLE REAL ESTATE INSIGHTS

Centerville’s numerous inlets, rivers, and lakes give it much more waterfront property than initially meets the eye when looking at a map. The Craigville area, which of course is home to Craigville Beach, comprises the majority of the village’s coastline along Nantucket Sound and, consequently, holds its fair share of luxury beach homes that benefit from easy access to the ocean. Homes located along Scudder Bay, as well as the Bumps and Centerville Rivers, enjoy access to Nantucket Sound by boat, and are thus highly desirable, particularly for boaters who appreciate having a well-protected dock. With 654 acres of water, Wequaquet Lake also provides a substantial amount of waterfront real estate where residents can go fishing, swimming, and boating right in their backyard. Throughout the village, one will also find plenty of beautiful Shingle and Colonial Style homes with manicured lawns that exude Cape Cod charm.

As of August 2021, the median home sale price is $555,000 and the median days on market is 65 days. Luxury real estate prices typically start around $1,000,000 in Centerville and reach as high as $4,000,000 for exceptional waterfront properties.

THE PEOPLE AND LIFESTYLE

Wherever you are in Centerville, a salty breeze will remind you that the ocean is never far away. So, it should come as no surprise that life in this beach community is deeply intertwined with its location on Nantucket Sound. In the summer, Craigville Beach is bustling with activity, where you can spend the day relaxing in the sand before heading across the street for a lobster roll at The Barnacle. Those looking to escape the crowds will often head to Covell’s Beach, where parking is only available to residents. Just down the road, The Beach Club is one of Cape Cod’s most beloved social clubs, where members enjoy a private section of the beach with waterside dining and events all summer long.

Continue down Craigville Beach Road and you’ll reach Four Seas Ice Cream, a Cape Cod institution where tourists and locals alike have been lining up for sundaes every summer since 1934. Another popular establishment that garners local pride is the Centerville Pie Company, which was put on the map when Oprah Winfrey listed their chicken pie on “Things Oprah Loves.”

Just a few minutes away from Craigville Beach, the Centerville Historic District is located in the village center and where the former homes of ship captains still stand proud, including the Austin Bearse House, which dates back to c. 1690. The 1856 Country Store is another favorite stop in the village, where you can buy penny candy, souvenirs, and much more.

While the village center has managed to maintain its quaint feel and small town charm, Centerville is just a short drive away from many of Cape Cod’s best amenities. Prestigious country clubs, yacht clubs, and golf courses can be found in the neighboring villages of Osterville and Hyannis Port. Residents also enjoy the best of both worlds with easy access to Hyannis, where fine dining, nightlife, and entertainment are all within striking distance, as well as an airport and ferry terminal serving Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.

If you are in search of an idyllic seaside community for you and your family to call home, Centerville is the perfect place to consider. For more information about luxury real estate in Centerville, MA, contact Paul Grover.
